Based in Nairobi, Kenya, the CIPHR\u00a0initiative set out to explore how molecular epidemiology specifically\u00a0HIV genetic sequencing can inform more targeted and ethical HIV\u00a0prevention strategies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><br \/>Through the engagement of over 1,284 participants across four key\u00a0community organizations (BHESP, SWOP, ISHTAR, and HOYMAS), the\u00a0project successfully combined molecular and behavioural data to\u00a0identify HIV transmission clusters and emerging infection hotspots. By\u00a0linking similar HIV genetic sequences and analysing viral load data, the\u00a0study has shown how phylogenetic insights can support more\u00a0responsive and effective programming.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>CIPHR was more than just a research study as at its core was\u00a0community participation and ethical reflection. An advisory group of\u00a0community health activists was formed to interrogate the implications\u00a0of phylogenetic methods and co-design a pilot study rooted in lived\u00a0realities.
